This Memorial Day, I participated in the Bolder Boulder 10k run for the 4th consecutive year. It has become a tradition in my family! My Uncle Mark has ran in 33 consecutive Bolder Boulder races (check out his BB shirt circa 1993!), and my Aunt Jan has 27 under her belt 🙂 For anyone who doesn’t know the imperial equivalent to 10k, its about 6.2 miles.
Now I’m a pretty active person; I go to the gym between 4-5 days a week. But running… that’s just not my thing. I was always able to do sprints no problem. But distance running is just no fun for me. I don’t know if it’s because I get bored doing one thing for too long or the fact that it makes literally everything hurt haha. But I do it for family! Even though I’m no distance runner, and almost dread this day every year (only because of my own lack of training), I always look back at my Bolder Boulder experience with a grateful heart. Grateful I get to share this day with my family every year, grateful I am healthy and more than capable of running 6.2 miles, and grateful to run in remembrance of those who died putting their lives on the line for our country.
I’ve been thinking about getting a fitness tracker to help me visualize my workouts. If I had a sweet, new fitness tracker to look at and check in on while I ran, it would have made my run a little bit more interesting. I’m a super visual person, so being able to see how many calories I’ve burned in a workout, or how many miles I ran at what pace, would be a game changer for me! I’m all about competition and challenges, even if it’s just against myself. Knowing the pace of mile 1 would have definitely made me kick it up a notch mile 2, just so I could beat my own pace! So a new fitness tracker like the Apple Watch would have come in handy this Memorial Day. And as an added bonus, new fitness gear always makes me a little more excited to get my bum into the gym after a long day at work.
So lately, every time I see someone with a fitness watch on, I ask them alllll about it; what they like, don’t like, the cost, what they use it for. I think after all of the research, I’ve narrowed it down to two options: the Apple Watch and the Fitbit Blaze.
I’d love to hear your opinions! Do you have a fitness tracker that you love? I love a good recommendation 🙂
And if you’re looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift for that super active dad of yours, Target has a coupon for $70 off their Apple Watch Series 1 until June 17th! Not to mention countless other great options for your Pops!
